EVENT REVIEW

Internal BAGSS Conference 2024

// The recent workshop weekend at the Bamberg Graduate School of Social Sciences united our PhD student community for a series of insightful panels and activities. Organized by Josefine Dehn, Susanne Schmid, and Thorsten Reppert, the event fostered a supportive and informative environment for members to connect and learn from one another.

Mock Conference and Panels

// The mock conference provided students with the opportunity to present their research and receive constructive feedback in a supportive setting, helping them prepare for future academic conferences.

// The Open Access Publishing panel, featuring Barbara Ziegler from the University Library, offered resources on publishing, repositories, and funding opportunities. Her insights into navigating open access complexities were highly valued.

In the Q&A session on "Preparing Your PhD Defense," Teresa Haller, Stephan Bischof, and Chen-Hao Hsu, who recently defended their PhDs, shared firsthand experiences and practical advice, offering reassurance and valuable strategies for those nearing their defenses.

The TheraPhD panel addressed mental health during a PhD journey. Micaela Gro?mann, Jon Meyer, and Susanne Schmid explored common mental health issues, introduced practical exercises, and discussed accessing different mental health resources in Germany. The lively participation and heartfelt contributions from the audience made this panel particularly impactful.

Evening Hike to Walberla

// The weekend also featured an evening hike to Walberla, offering a perfect blend of relaxation and fellowship, allowing participants to unwind and enjoy the beautiful scenery.

Held at a hotel in Schlaifhausen, a village at the foot of the Ehrenbürg, 40 km southeast of Bamberg in the outskirts of Franconian Switzerland, the conference provided a serene and picturesque backdrop that enhanced the overall experience for all attendees.

// Overall, the workshop weekend highlighted the supportive and engaging community at BAGSS, where participants had a great time and left with new insights, stronger connections, and practical takeaways for their academic journeys.
