Curriculum Vitae

Dr. Benedikt Morschheuser is a professor of information systems at the Otto-Friedrich University of Bamberg and heads the Gamification Research Group. The research of Dr. Morschheuser and his team focuses on exploring the technological, economic, and societal effects of digital games and the increasing relevance of technologies and methods from the games industry in business and society. In particular, his research focuses on the design and investigation of gamified information systems that utilize design elements from games to influence user experience and behavior.

Dr. Morschheuser studied at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology and received a diploma in industrial engineering & management (Wirtschaftsingenieurwesen) in 2012. In 2017, he received his doctorate in information systems from the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology. In 2021, he accepted a position at the Friedrich-Alexander University of Erlangen-Nuremberg, where he headed an adidas endowed professorship of information systems with a focus on gamification. Since February 2025, he has held a chair of information systems at the Otto-Friedrich University of Bamberg.

His entire academic career has been conducted in close collaboration with the industry. From 2013 to 2014, he worked as a researcher at Leipzig University and investigated the future of banking as part of a research consortium of the German and Swiss finance industry together with the University of St.Gallen. In 2014, he joined the Corporate Research department of Robert Bosch GmbH to investigate the design of gamified systems and services. From 2017 to 2021, he worked in the "Connected, Autonomous, Shared, and Electric Mobility (CASE)" innovation department at Daimler AG and the Digital Transformation Unit (Digital House) at Mercedes-Benz AG. As part of these activities, Dr. Morschheuser has collaborated as an associate researcher with research groups at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, the University of Mannheim, the University of St.Gallen, and the Tampere University of Technology.
