The Profile of Iranian Studies in Bamberg
The Iranian studies department in Bamberg places its focus of scholarship and instruction on the persian-speaking region. This fascinating/exciting cultural region has been the focus of political and media attention for decades. The region defines itself through the historical role of modern Persian and extends far beyond the current borders of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
The faculty at the department draw attention to a region, which, besides Iran, also includes Afghanistan, Central Asia, the Caucasus and even Anatolia, the Balkans, and islamic India. We especially emphasize such topics as classical and modern literature, scholarship from historical islamic times until the present, as well as topics from cultural anthropology and cultural studies.
Range of Courses and Learning Persian in Bamberg
We offer courses that range from bachelor to doctoral programs.
The Iranian studies department in Bamberg is known for its excellent Persian language instruction. The intensive courses consist of 8 weekly lecture hours and are complemented by tutors.
In the B.A. study program “Islamic Orient” students can choose Persian as their main language and have the opportunity to predominantly take Iranian studies courses.
The department offers the M.A. study program “Iranian Studies: Literature, History and Culture”, which is also open to graduates of other majors. Here students have the superb opportunity to engage in Iranian studies topics and to further refine their skills.
