Applying to the European Joint Master's Programme in English and American Studies with Bamberg as your home university
Before applying
Who is eligible? | - Bachelor's degree or Diploma in English and American Studies covering the subject areas cultural studies, linguistics and literary studies (corresponding to 180 ECTS)
- Bachelor's degrees or Diploma in other courses of study with at least 25% (corresponding to 45 ECTS) of courses in English and American Studies covering the subject areas cultural studies, linguistics and literary studies
- NB: Applicants with degrees in English and American Studies not covering all three subject areas can be provisionally admitted under the condition that they compensate their missing competencies in one or more of the three subject areas (cultural studies, linguistics and/or literary studies) in so-called “Auflagenmodulen” (specially required modules defined in the bylaws) which they are required to pass within the first two semesters of study.

Visa | Visa applications might take very long, we suggest: - once you have been accepted into the consortium (step 1, see below), send your application documents for Bamberg as early as possible
- inform the coordinators if you encounter any problems during the visa process
- get in touch with embassies early on

Step 1: Applying to the consortium
Application procedure | To apply for the Joint Programme, you need to apply to the consortium first. To so so, you need to upload the following documents to the online application platform(hosted by the University of Graz) |

- Diploma supplement + English/German translation (if provided by your university)
- Confirmation of English proficiency through either a completed bachelor or master’s programme studied in the following English-speaking countries Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, United Kingdom, USA.
- All other applicants need to provide an English certificate - List of approved language tests:
- Cambridge CPE (Certificate of Proficiency in English) grades C, B, A
- Cambridge CAE (Certificate of Advanced English) PASS
- Michigan ECPE (Examination for the Certificate of Proficiency in English) PASS
- Trinity ISE 3 (Integrated Skills in English) PASS
- Pearson PTE Academic MINIMUM SCORE 76
- IELTS MINIMUM OVERALL SCORE 7
- TOEFL iBT MINIMUM SCORE 98
- Comment: Applicants must include with their application either an approved language certificate or a confirmation of registration for a language test. The language test must be taken before the selection meeting and the scores must be available at the selection meeting at the latest.
- Please note that the provided language certificates must not be older than 2 years wherefore the 2 years will be counted back from the start date of the application.
- No English proficiency letter or other certificates will be accepted.

- The nomination letter (confirmation email) you have received from the Joint Programme consortium

Application procedure | To apply, you need to: - Fill out the online application form (University of Bamberg) and print it
- Get authorized copies of all of your documents (Original documents must be provided upon enrolment at Bamberg but should not be sent via postal mail)
