Career prospects after graduation

Demand for IT specialists

The demand for IT specialists remains high. In 2019, the demand for IT specialists peaked at 124,000 vacancies. This represents a 51 percent increase over the previous year1. IT software developers, IT application administrators, data scientists and IT project managers are particularly in demand. At the same time, the number of unemployed people seeking IT work is falling. In 2018, the figure will be 2.7 percent, which is a very low figure. Compared to the previous year, it has fallen by 23,000 or eight percent2. The statement by Mr. Achim Berg, President of Bitkom, underlines the current situation for IT specialists in Germany: "The shortage of IT experts has long since affected not only the IT industry, but the entire economy as well as administration, public authorities and science. As digitization accelerates, the demand for IT specialists will continue to grow strongly in the coming years "3.
