Conference proceedings published: “Adaptation strategies for monuments in a changing climate”
The proceedings of the past event, entitled "Adaptation Strategies for Monuments in Climate Change", which took place on 25-26 May 2023 in Bamberg, are now available for download free of charge. The event was organised by ICOMOS Germany and the Centre for Heritage Conservation Studies and Technologies (KDWT) of the University of Bamberg.
The symposium concentrated on the formulation of strategies for the safeguarding of cultural heritage from the impact of climate change, with a particular emphasis on their potential contribution to climate protection. Furthermore, the conservation of garden heritage was also addressed, in particular. The inaugural day comprised specialist presentations and tours, including the university auditorium and the Bamberg Hain. On the second day, themed tables and a fishbowl discussion provided an opportunity for interdisciplinary participants to engage in direct discourse on current challenges with the topic.
The accompanying publication provides a foundation for discourse on prospective alterations to heritage conservation practices in the context of climate change, emphasizing the necessity for novel methodologies to ensure the long-term preservation of cultural heritage.
