An-Institute

Affiliated institutes are independent research institutions, to which the University of Bamberg has granted the status of an academic institution in accordance with the provisions of Section 103(2) of the Bavarian Higher Education Act.

This emphasises not only their special connection to the University, but also their commitment to academically independent research.

The Leibniz Institute for Educational Trajectories

The Leibniz Institute for Educational Trajectories in Bamberg studies educational processes from birth to old age. In order to promote longitudinal research in educational science in Germany, LIfBi provides fundamental, supraregional and internationally significant, research-based infrastructures for empirical educational research. The core of the institute is the National Educational Panel (NEPS), which is based at LIfBi and combines the expertise of a Germany-wide, interdisciplinary network of excellence. Other major projects in which LIfBi plays a leading role include the ReGES and BildungswegeFlucht refugee studies as well as the Data Literacy monitoring study. The LIfBi’s own research and development activities, especially the insight-driven development of instruments and methods for longitudinal educational studies, are the basis for these endeavours. Other research projects also profit from these activities.

The LIfBi became a member of the Leibniz Association and an Affiliated Institute at the University of Bamberg on 1 January 2014.

State Institute for Family Research at the University of Bamberg (ifb)

The State Institute for Family Research has been based in Bamberg since 1994 as an autonomous, scientifically independent research institute. It is an institute of the Bavarian State Ministry for Family, Labor and Social Affairs and an affiliated institute of the Otto Friedrich University of Bamberg.

The task of the ifb is to research the living conditions and needs of families. To this end, the ifb examines how family life is organized and how the living conditions and lifestyles of families are changing. It also conducts practical studies, e.g. in the field of family education and counseling. The ifb is characterized by the combination of applied research and basic research and is also seen as a mediator between science and practice in its capacity as a researching, advising and supporting institution.
