Practical information on ICKL-3
Please note that the weather in Amsterdam is rather whimsical at the moment. It may rain, it may be cold, but it may as well be very hot! We recommend you to pack accordingly...
How to reach the Conference Venue
The Third International Conference of Kurdisch Linguistics will take place in the P.C. Hoofthuis, Spuistraat 134, of the University of Amsterdam, room 1.04., which is on the first floor. Signs will guide you.
In front of the room there will be a registration desk on August, 25, from 8.30 onward where you can register and will receive some additional information, lunch tickets, etc.
Payment of 30 Euro will be requested at the registration desk.
The P.C. Hoofhuis is situated immediately behind Dam square, right in the centre of Amsterdam.
See the map below (at the end of the document) or download and print a map from: www.amsterdam.info/print/map/b4.php
From Amsterdam Central Station this is a 10 minutes' walk. Coming out the station turn right, continue until you see the bicycle flat. Turn left, cross Prins Hendrikkade at the pedestrian lights, turn left and immediately go right onto Hekelveld, which becomes Spuistraat after appr. 100 mtrs. You'll find the P.C. Hoofthuis on your right.
From Amsterdam Central Station, you can also take trams 1, 2, 5, 13, 17 [tram platform B]. Get off at Dam Square [second stop]. When you get off the tram, turn right and take Molsteeg on the left, at the end of the alley cross Spuistraat and you're right in front of the P.C. Hoofthuis. This will also take about 10 minutes. You can buy a ticket on the tram at € 2.80.
It may be more practical (and cheaper) to buy a ¡®OV-chip card¡¯ at the train station of Schiphol Airport or at any other train station. Such a card costs 7,50 Euro. It functions as a debit card, you have to load credit on it, which is possible at all train stations, bus stations and supermarkets.

Transportation from the airport to the center of Amsterdam:
Train & tram
From Schiphol (Amsterdam Airport) there are trains to Amsterdam Central Station (appr. 20 minutes) every 15 minutes.
-You can buy tickets at the ticket desk or at a one of the yellow ticket machines. The ticket machines take Euro coins, debit cards with a Maestro logo and Visa and Master cards. A train ticket (2nd class) costs € 5,00.
- The Dutch Railways no longer issue paper tickets, but only [disposable] public transport chip cards.
- To avoid issues with incompatible debit and credit cards you can also by your e-ticket on line: www.ns.nl/en/travel-information or the OV-chipcard (see above)
- NB.You cannot buy tickets on the train!
- If during your stay in the Netherlands you intend to use Dutch public transport more frequently [train, tram, metro], it might also be worthwhile to buy a public transport chip card from one of the yellow ticket machines and load credit on the card: read about your options here.
As you leave Amsterdam Central Station (exit: city centre), you will find tram platform B on your right hand side. From there, trams 1, 2, 5, 13 and 17 will take you directly to the hotel (tram stop: Dam). The hotel is located at Nieuwezijds Voorburgwal number 276, on the right side of the street.
How to reach your hotel
Since the participants are accomodated at various locations, it is not possible to give general directions. However, the public transportation network in Amsterdam is extremely dense, so there will almost certainly be a tram- or bus stop nearby your hotel. The websites of most hotels have a ¡®contact¡¯ button, where you can find information about how to reach the location.
In case you need some tailored advice about how to reach your hotel, you can direct your questions to our conference assistants:
Bart Nijsten: Bart.Nijsten@student.uva.nl
Marilena van der Pol: Marilenavanderpol@gmail.com
They will help you to find the proper transportation to your location.
